As we drive south from Yellowstone Park and enter the
Rockefeller Memorial Parkway, the weather starts to improve. Soon we are skirting the beautiful
Jackson Lake.

We stop for lunch at the
Signal Mountain Lodge which has a wonderful view of the lake and the mountains. We enjoy
the food as well and can recommend it.

How did the
Teton Range get it's name? The story goes that early French fur trappers called this mountain range "les trois tetons" (the three breasts... or tits), but they never really looked much like breasts to me. Maybe those trappers had been out in the brush too long or were having visions of the future '50's pointy bras? A more likely explanation is the name comes from the Shoshone name "Teewinot" for many pinnacles.

Just south of Jackson Lake we enter
Grand Teton National Park and are treated to sunshine. We are immediately impressed with how many
bike riders we see. In fact this park has excellent
bike trails and provides some of the most scenic rides in the world. We vow to bring suitable bikes the next time we visit.
The mountains are so captivating it's hard for us to stop snapping shots of them. It's easy to see why some photographers have made their careers of photographing in and around these mountains.

As the afternoon is wearing on we move further south towards
Jackson WY, formerly known as "Jackson Hole." We wonder if the local residents decided to drop the word "hole" as it detracts from this chic (read "expensive") mountain town.

The culture of the mountains is evident everywhere we turn in Jackson - moose, antlers, and cowboys are common themes... as well as pricey real estate. Our friend Rossana, who came through Jackson a week or two before, fell in love with a lovely mountain cabin at Sotheby's for a cool $10 million.
After a restful two nights and a day off watching NFL football at the
Virginian Lodge RV Park, we take one last short drive up along the Tetons before leaving.
