Meet Chuck, the Tire Man... best guy to ever touch a tire (at least for RVs). He invented a system for installing brass tire stems (common on 18 wheelers) on RV tires to better enable checking and monitoring tire pressure. Since we plan to drive to Anchorage and back this summer, being able to monitor tire pressure is more than a good thing, especially with frost heaves buckling the road beds.

Driving straight from Leucadia, we arrived at Chuck's a little before he closed on a Monday afternoon. He helped us get hooked up to utilities for us to spend the night in his parking lot for an early 7am start the next morning. Camping out in the parking lot may not be the most scenic site (it's right across the street from
NAWS - Navel Air Weapons Station) we've ever overnighted, but it did have two saving graces. After closing our privacy shades and opening up the skylight, we were able to watch the clouds building for a possible thunder storm. Secondly, we were delighted to discover excellent HD TV reception (probably from the Navel Station) including
Al Jezeeria, 5 PBS stations, as well as numerous other news and entertainment channels. Amazing - better choices than we get from Direct TV. Guess the Navy's interested in keeping the troops entertained as there's not too much to do in the area around Ridgecrest.

The finished product - yipee now we can install an automatic tire monitoring system. It was well worth driving to Ridgecrest to have Chuck do the installation. |
