Encinitas/Leucadia to Anza Borrego

Although the lake is full,
it's not spilling over the dam

By mid afternoon we reach the Stagecoach Trails RV Resort. It's spacious and clean. We love it.

Although we know there are ancient grinding stones used by the native Indians in this area, it takes us awhile to find them.

Fun with Family and Friends

Family
Hap and Patti - Peter's folks
On March 17, Saint Patrick's Day, we celebrate Peter's 59th birthday.

Heading South

The rains have come late this year. In fact, Corralitos has only gotten 11 inches by mid March, which is a fraction of the usual 25 to 30 inches.  We leave the house late, under lead-grey drippy skies. By the time we are close to San Luis Obispo, patches of blue start to show.

Evening sets in around Gaviota Pass

The next morning, we are up relatively early in Ojai to make the hop to Palm Springs.

We are surprised to see so little snow on Mt San Jacinto.

LOTS of windmills!

More windmills than ever before

After setting up camp, we relax around Lake Cahuilla.

Lake Cahuilla offers a quiet retreat from the more urban area around Palm Springs.

Ahhh the beautiful wide sandy beaches of North County San Diego at low tide on a sunny day without a ton of people. It's hard to ask for much more.
Beacon's in Leucadia
These sand cliffs are in a constant state of erosion and we amuse ourselves by seeing what the local homeowners try to save their expensive homes.
Water seepage erodes the bottom of the cliffs

...  a great set for a Mayan"2012 End of Time" flick

Nice day to just kick back and enjoy the rays.

Preparing for RVing the Southwest

New Sony NEX-5N camera

OK - I finally broke down and shelled out the bucks for a really nice digital/SLR hybrid camera. Meet my new Sony NEX-5N:

I love it.  It's small and easily fits into my hand, although not easily into my purse like the little Canon point and shoot ELPH.  {Sigh} looks like I'm now going to have to buy and new purse. Still it takes marvelous photos and it's super in low light = no flash needed.

It takes great sharp photos.
You can see the hairs on Toby's face

Good color tones on Peter

Wellll.... maybe a little too much definition on those wrinkles on my face:

Me in my kitchen

... and we're finally starting to capture our view of Monterey Bay (we're still working on the perfect pano):

Looking south towards Monterey

Looking north towards Santa Cruz

Night shots are possible as well:

Although, as much as I hate to admit, Philip still has me beat in taking moon shots:
