Farmers' Market in Kailua Kona
On our first morning back on Kona, we go to the local market to pick up fruits, veggies, and flowers. Mornings are generally the best time to do things as the weather's best then and the heat of the day hasn't set in yet.

The array of tropical fruits is candy not only for eating but for the eye as well.

We buy soaps from Doug English, originally from San Diego. |
After we get the basics, it's time to buy flowers. For $5 to $10, we can buy a large assortment that would easily cost 5 times or more on the mainland.

Keauhou Bay
Since we have some time before meeting Allie and going over to the house to check it out, we decide to take a walk to Keauhou Bay. Along the way, we pass all the vegetation Kona is famous for.

We miss our friends Scott and Beth as they have moved back to the mainland. They both belonged to the Keauhou Canoe Club and we used to go out paddling with them.

Hawaii is a landscaper's paradise. In fact, the resorts snap up the best making it hard for homeowners to hire them. When we were getting bids for creating the garden around our house, it was hard to find people to even give us bids. One group of guys showed up with the motto "We show up" (not "We do great work" etc) splashed in large letters along the side of their truck. Guess the rest of them would rather go surfing. Island time is not a concept to be taken lightly on Kona.

Our Rental House
Speaking of work, it's time to stop goofing off and get to work ourselves. We meet Allie, our property manager, for lunch and then head over to the house.
