Faywood Hot Springs

After leaving Bisbee, we head south on Hwy 80 towards Douglas which is right on the border with Mexico. Much to our surprise, we don't encounter any Border Patrol check points at all.  Go figure. Perhaps the people in this part of Arizona aren't that worried about illegals gaining entry. Coyotes, take note.

Hwy 80 turns north after Douglas and runs through an historic battlefield in which Geronimo was finally captured by US Troops.

We cross over into New Mexico

We had originally planned to camp at the City of Rocks State Park, but just before we reached it, we decide to explore Faywood Hot Springs. Although, it doesn't look like much from the road and I was somewhat opposed to even checking it out, we pull into the main gate.  Nobody is there, but as we pull through, a red faced guy in a golf cart speeds towards us waving his arms.  We explain we're looking for an RV space for the night.

He tells us this is the place for us and his hot pools are fantastic.  We remain skeptical but follow him around as he gives us a tour of the layout. I make a mental note of which campsites look the best. Peter tells the owner that we want to check out City of Rocks first and he looks chest fallen.  After not finding any suitable campsites at City of Rocks, we return to Faywood.  The owner is sitting there waiting for us as we return.

Honestly, he was right. The pools are amazing and we end up delighted we ended up at Faywood Hot Springs. We later learn this hot springs has been closed over over five years after the original owner died. It fell into disrepair until the current owner took over six months ago. The refurbished hot spring has only been re-opened for the last five weeks.

I fall in love with the junk art family at the end of the the hot pool enclosure.

After an enjoyable late afternoon soaking as well as another under the stars, we're both ready for a good night's rest.

We really enjoyed ourselves at Faywood Hot Springs and plan to return for a longer stay whenever we're in the area.
